The McMullen Family

"They complete our family - you don't realize there was something missing until you have it."

The McMullen Family:

Parents: Tammy and Chuck
Biological Children: Grant, Garrett, and Jensen
Adopted Children: James, Ciara and Hailey

Tammy and Chuck McMullen have always loved children and have been foster parents for more than a decade. Although the McMullens have three biological sons, Grant, Garrett, and Jensen, they have always had room in their home and their hearts to care for and mentor other children.

After fostering many children over the years, the McMullens were fostering two sisters, Ciara and Hailey in January 2009 and fell in love. "They blended in so well," says Tammy. Soon after, they found out the girls had an older brother, James, who was living in a foster home nearby. By December, they had adopted all three siblings, completing their family.

Having the girls join the family has been an exciting experience for Tammy, who enjoys buying dresses, sparkly shoes and hosting slumber parties. For older brother James, he immediately became "one of the big boys," playing, laughing and spending time with his sisters and spending time with his new brothers.

"We both felt like this is what we were supposed to do," said Tammy. "They complete our family - you don't realize there was something missing until you have it."

Tammy, an oncology nurse, and Chuck, who works for Florida's Attorney General in the Cyber Crime Unit, have dedicated their lives to making a difference in the lives of Florida's children.

"We have found fostering, and now adoption, to be very rewarding," Tammy says. "Each child brings new experiences and leaves us with new memories. We are looking forward to making memories with our newly adopted children for the rest of our lives."

Kid of the Month

Each month, a child or sibling group will be identified and featured in a video on the Explore Adoption Website. A video is a great recruitment tool that allows prospective adoptive families to listen and learn a little bit of information about a child or sibling group who are available for adoption from foster care and do not have an identified family. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Adoption Information Center at 1-800-96ADOPT.
